    Hi all.
I was hoping some of you maybe able to help. For some reason my computer will pick up memory sticks and connect my wireless keyboard and mouse but if i try anything else like my mini mbox, ipod or to connect my phone, it just constantly connects and disconnects. The devices are barely picked up for 30 seconds most of the time making it impossible to do anything with them. Ive heard it might have something to do with microdunce what ever that is.
    Thanks for your time

    Hello Chris

    Welcome to PC Help Forum

Is this a laptop or a desktop?

You may need to acquire a mains powered USB hub to attach your other bits to.

I think with Microdunce someone is pulling your mickey mate, it's a derogatory term referring to Microsoft.

    Hi Chris,

What happens if you just connect the iPod or phone by itself? This really only applies if you have a laptop since you need the keyboard/mouse connected with a desktop.

Do you have another bank/set of USB ports you could test on? For example, a lot of desktops have USB ports on the front and back.

I have a desktop and its a good one. Yeah its the same problem all over, front and back ports do the same thing. Its strange.
But wouldn't the usb hub connect from one of the usb ports in my computer?

Well yes it would but it would have its own power supply thereby taking the strain off the desktops power allocation to the on-board USB's.

What operating system are you running and do you have all service packs?

Also, I had a problem in which USB ports would go into a sleep mode sometimes. I doubt this is it, but worth checking. In the device manager, for each "USB Hub", under properties, you can uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under the power management tab. This helped fix a USB problem I had at one point, so maybe this will help.

Im running windows 7 ultimate. Im not sure if i have all the service packs. i think i do :s
Unfortunetly "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under the power management tab" doesn't work.

If you are unsure if you have the latest service pack and all Important and Recommended updates then go into Control Panel and open Windows Update.
