I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone post this yet.

Microsoft Office 2010 Starter includes, Microsoft Word starter 2010, Microsoft Excel Starter 2010, Microsoft Office Tools (which includes : Microsoft Clip Organiser, Microsoft Office 2010 Upload Centre, Microsoft Office Picture Manager and Microsoft Office Starter To-Go Device Manager 2010).

The good news is that this Microsoft Package is completely free, with the option to upgrade to the full version if you so wish (but don't worry it doesn't keep popping up telling you to upgrade, it leaves you to your own devices). Although it doesn't feature everything that you would find in a full version of Microsoft Office, it is perfect for students, high school kids and even people like me, where you find your money going on bills so your unable to buy the full product.

Last time I tested Open Office it did read the Power Point format. Not sure that it reads Office 2010 (personally untested), but I believe all of the lower versions are covered.

Basically the same, yes. Slight feature differences. One opinion here, others can be found by Googling "Open Office vs Libre Office"
