hiya im nick...ok so iv got a laptop "Toshiba Satellite l500d-163",windows 7 home 64 bit.

A few days ago i was trying to conect to a wireless router, i entered the id but it sed it was wrong, and some thing about conectivity.......anyway the next time i turned the laptop on the wireless card "wifi" apeard to be desabled...........(as if windows disabled it) so my guestion is how do i turn back on my wifi????????.

heres what took a look at:

1)i took a look in the Bios and the wifi was ENABLED.

2)in the device manager there apears to be no wireless lan adaptor......under adaptors.(exept my Ethernet LAN).

3)in the manual it says that to enable or disable the wifi i have to press FN+f8......i tryed it but nothing happend.

    4) the radar software for my wifi says its "Disabled"

5)in Control panel /Network conections, there used to be 2 icons one for the "LAN Ethernet" and one for "the wireless lan"................now the wireless lan has disapeared :( .

    6) iv noticed that when the laptop first boots the wifi light comes on for like 2 seconds then goes off.

im running out of ideas.........please help

You need to verify that a driver for the wifi is installed and working look here

Please go to start>search>type device manager.
Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?
Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If y our driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

then if the driver is installed and working and you have tried turning on the device go to event viewer and copy the Event ID and source code

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of this.

    Ken

hi Ken thanks, in the device manager under " network adapters" there is only my Realtek lan ethernet driver........the "realtek wireless" has been gon for 2 days....theres no yellow symbol or anything like that in there........the wifi jus seems to be missing.

ok in the "events" there is a red error:" ID 20 google update"

and under "system" an error: id "43029 atikmdag" kategory DAL

Sounds like it is a simple driver install. The missing driver is indicative. Dont worry about the google update, the atikmdag id a video driver problem we can address when we get your wifi working.

Go to the mfr and download and install the wifi driver. Reboot and look in device manager. Is it there and working?

I see your problem. You can use the vista 64 bit driver if you install it in compatibility mode.

To do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>Vista>install

Nickkal if you go to the link I provided earlier and then click the Downloads Tab.

Then select Win 7 64bit in the "Refine Search by" box.

In the "All categories" box scroll down to find the Wi-Fi one.

    You should then see this.

hi again , wolf i went to the site /downloads/entered my os and it showed me a list of drivers,i dowloaded and installed the realtek WLAN and rebooted but nothing happened.

ken that site took me to a list of wifi drivers for all different os.....i installed the windows 7 wifi and rebooted but nothing happened......then i downloaded the vista one and installed that like you sed...but nothing happeded, so i uninstalled it from "remove/uninstall programs".

then i found the original Realtek wlan Driver in "remove/uninstall programs" and i uninstalled it............

my wifi device wont show up in the devise manager with or with out a driver..Windows jus cant seem to "see" the wifi divice, however it the wifi red light comes on for 2 seconds when the laptop is restarted.

also in windows 7 update it should show available drivers for devices that dont work properly....but it doesnt even show up in there either......

    more ideas are welcome.

I suggest you do a repair install of 7 Nick and then re-try downloading and installing any needed drivers.
