I recently installed gears of War on my pc but the game will not play.A message appears saying"you cannot run the game with modified executable code. Please reinstall the game". I have reinstalled the game but the same message appears. I have looked at various web sites and some say that its a problem with Windows digital certificate. It appears the problem is due to a hard-coded date in the certificate that prevents the game being played from that date onwards.
One solution is to set the system date back to before January 28 2009.
How do I do this and will it cause problems to my other programs?.

    Have a read here:

Gears of War - "cannot run the game with modified executable code." - Games for Windows Live

Setting your system's date is pretty simple:
-double click on the clock on the bottom-right corner of your desktop and set the date to whatever you like.

As for the "problem causing" bit...it might affect some other programs, I suggest switching your date only before playing, and set it back as soon as you quit the game so no other application will notice the date change :)

However, check that link carefully and you can find a link to the patch that fixes the issue so you don't need to change the date

Gears of War now starts ok but soon comes to a screen where you can enter your windows live profile name and after entering this the game crashes every time. A popup states that gears of war has stopped working and windows is searching for a solution and then says windows will now close the program and notify you if a solution becomes available. This happens every time i try to play the game

i know this is a late reply, but you will have to turn back the date of your pc, from the bottom right to 2008, the game (for some reason) does not let you install it after the date of 29/01/09. so do this and you will be able to play the game. just be sure to change it back when you have finished.

again sorry its such a long time in reply.....>.<

I would request you to try these steps if you are receiving the same error message

    Step 1: Uninstall the game

    1. Click on Start
    2. Click on Control Panel.
    3. Click on Switch to classic view
    4. Click on Add or Remove programs
    5. Select the Microsoft Gears of War and click on Remove.

    Remove the game folder

    1. Right click on Start
    2. Click on Explore
    3. Click on Program Files
    4. Double click on Microsoft games
    5. Select the Gears of War folder and press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Remove the folder that has saved game content.

    1. Click Start, and then click My Documents.
    2. Right-click the Gears of War Files folder, if it exists, and then click Delete.
Note: If the Gears of War Files folder does not exist, close the My Documents window, and then go to step 3.
    3. Click yes to confirm that you want to remove the folder and all its contents.
    4. Close the My Documents window.

Step 3: Remove the game from Registry

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry editor at your own risk.

Remove the game entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    4. Double Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    5. Double Click on Software
    6. Double Click on Microsoft
    7. Double Click on Microsoft Games
    8. Select Gears of War.

Remove the game entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER

    8. Select Gears of War.
    9. Press Delete key on the keyboard

Note: The above steps will remove the Gears of War completely.

    Please restart the computer.

Step 3. Install Windows Installer Clean up Utility

We need to install the Windows Installer Clean up Utility to remove the residue of files remained after uninstalling FSX manually.

    1. Click on the link given below and click on Run.

    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...bd/msicuu2.exe

    2. Click on Run and then click on Run again.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Windows Installer Clean up utility.
    4. After the installation is complete then click on Start and then click on All Programs
    5. At the bottom of All Programs locate and select Windows Install Clean Up.
    6. A window will appear with the list of multiple programs installed on your system.
    7. Click On Microsoft Gears of War and then click on Remove.
NOTE: Make sure that only Microsoft Gears of War is selected and nothing else.
    8. Once the game is un-installed exit the utility, restart the system.

    Step 4: Install the Game:

Install the disc and follow the instructions on the screen to install the game

After the game is installed, try to test the game. If you receive the error message of executable code, now try to install the update

    http://cdne.gearsofwar.xbox.com/uplo..._Microsoft.exe

After the update is downloaded, restart the system and try to play the game. Let me know after you have done these steps. If you still receive the same error message let me know yr system configuration
