I got a BSOD on my Win XP laptop. I didn't copy down all of the full screen of text, but two of the lines were:

    STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF84C65E, 0xADBC9AFC, 0x00000000)

    Win32K.SYS - Address BF84C65E base at BF800000, DateStamp 4f2ba740

Following the instructions above, I downloaded and ran pchf.exe. There are 9 files in the \PCHF folder: 3 .txt files, 5 .dmp files, and 1 .nfo file.

I am concened about uploading this information to a public place where it would be available to anyone. Two of the txt files are empty (EventApp and EventSys). The third appears to have a local IP address. The file MSINFO32.nfo appears to contain the complete system configuration. I was unable to open any of the .dmp files.

How can I be assured that this information will not be used by hackers or scammers?

    Hello.
As far as staff members go, we can see your IP anyhow, but we only use that to check against local spammers databases.

But feel free to remove your IP from logs, we generally don't need it unless were going networking tests and I assume you don't have any ISP or networking issues.

We always encourage users to remove private information from logs if needed, but our tools we use do not collect private information at all, they give us the basics of what we need to run diagnostics and nothing more.

Hello Jennifer, is there anything further you would like regarding this issue? unfortunately the error code alone (0x8E) is very generic, and can be caused by any number of hardware or software problems. Without the logs, we may never know!

I guess not at this time. The error has not recurred. I am still uncomfortable uploading so much information and I'm not sure I know how to sterilize the logs. I'm not that concerned about the staff. But can't anyone see any attachments?

    Thanks, anyway.

Only registered members can download them, so no guests/search engine crawlers can index them.
