When I put my computer into standby mode and then shake the mouse, my computer resumes from standby. I checked off the option to not allow the mouse to wake the computer but it doesn't work.
My computer is configured so that only my keyboard is allowed to wake my computer.

I tried to see what was causing this and I tried the elevated command tip posted in another forum. powercfg -lastwake

    What showed was this:

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002]

    C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

    C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -lastwake

    Description: USB Root Hub
    Manufacturer: (Standard USB Host Controller)

    C:\Windows\system32>

This is telling me that a usb root hub is causing the problem, but the only thing connected to my computer via usb is my monitor. My monitor has two additional usb ports, one of which I use to connect a unifying receiver for my mouse and keyboard. I have a logitech m700 keyboard and an m705 mouse.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

I am using windows vista home premium 32bit. I have read many articles relating to this and so far I can't find the cause.

    Yeah its been awhile..

I've noticed something strange though. If I mark off the option for the keyboard as well to not allow my computer to wake, both the mouse and keyboard prevents standby resume. I was happy to discover my mouse performing the way that it should, but not happy that my keyboard did not wake my computer (as expected). This leads me to believe the problem lies with the unifying hardware and software as both mouse and keyboard operate with the same receiver.

Re: computer resumes from standby with mouse

I would agree with you, lionheart. With both the mouse and keyboard running from the same receiver, a signal recieved by the computer from that receiver isn't differentiated immediately. It just receives a signal.... The 2nd signal from either one would be identifying, but not the 1st.

Is there anything further we can offer you with this issue?

I guess the only thing left that I can ask is if anyone has had a similar problem with wireless mouse and keyboard combos and if they have had any problem trying to change standby options?

But lionheart, this is actually not a problem. Tell you what... Do you have a usb keyboard & usb mouse available? Test with me please. Remove your wireless keyboard and mouse, replace them with with the usb devices. Now try your wake option. I would bet the mouse won't wake the computer, just as you want.

Re: computer resumes from standby with mouse

unfortunately i don't have a spare wired usb keyboard and mouse, but I do have a spare wireless keyboard and mouse. I like less clutter on my table :).

however, I do believe what you said is true.

There is an on/off switch on my mouse that I can turn off every time i put my computer on standby. I guess I'll just have to live with it. Thanks for the help.
