is it read the contents of DVD?
its may problem in DVD lens in your DVD ROM.
or you try to use different burning software like ashampoo...?

    Hi Yusaf,

Can you try using another tool to burn the DVD's, if only just to identify if it's a hardware or software issue.

    Try: InfraRecorder Downloads

    Hi Nathan,

Gave me different write speed options to CDburner XP.

CDburner XP gives. 4,8,12 and 16x speeds

    Infrarecorcer gave 3.5, 7, 10.5, 14x and maximum

I selected 7x speed - Actually wrote between 2-8x speed (mostly between 6-8x speed though)

In infrarecorder said Warning:the Dma speed test has been skipped

It burned files successfully though twice. (Made a backup of everything - required 2 DVDs)

What i don't understand is CDburner XP works flawlessly then all of a said stops working. Any ideas why this might be?

BTW i reinstalled all drivers that were downloaded from the dell site. Doesn't have anything to do with infrarecorder working though as just tried burning with Cdburner xp again before infrarecorder and cdburner xp doesnt work (wasted about 10 disks and just bout a 50 pack the other day :'().

What speeds would you recommend for cd (52x) and dvd- (16x) btw?

PS: Recieved a fatal error bsod today. will make a post in my bsod thread and thanks for the program

Try re-installing CDB XP again just in case, and try writing at a slower speed. Slower speeds are more reliable, and increase your chances of your data being written without any glitches. Obviously you'll be sacrificing speed.

It has a lot to do with the burner itself I find, age, quality, how much the drive has actually been used. A cleaning CD can often help. If I find that I'm wasting a lot of CD's at a higher speed, then I will normally lower the speed gradually until I get some reliability.

EDIT: Sorry, posts seems to have split into two seperate thread.. have now been merged.

    Hey Nathan,

I tried all speeds with cdburnerxp (4,8,12 except for maximum)

I think i'll just leave it for now, i've used up probably 15 disks by now and InfraRecorder is working fine. guess i'm gonna have to get over cdburner xp...... Btw thanks for the tip on using a cd cleaner. i'll buy a cd cleaner from ebay. Is this one any good?

    Questions

    1) Could the program used for burning ie cdburner xp damage my dvd writer?

2)Also is my dvd writer any good?

TSST CORP DVD + - RW TS-H653A - sorry don't know what make it is

Hey Samuria, I've used isos before with cdburner xp and work finebut not recently

Looked in event viewer and found a string of errors under System:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.

    Event ID: 11
    Source: cdrom

Went on event ID and found this:

    Event ID 11 Source CdRom

According to the site it says i might have a failing cable, but burnt disks fine with infrarecorder so a little confused. Error occurred this morning and last night when using cdburner xp i suppose

PS: something wrong with post, could only access if i go in history and not bookmark

Sorry to interrupt, but I've got something you might find useful, ymulla.

Please give Opti Drive Control a try to test your CD. It should be able to determine if the drive is truly failing.

Thanks guys. Looks like the drive itself is good and seems to work quite happily with other software tools. Did re-installing the software make any difference? probably don't want to lose more CD's at this point?

TSST is Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology. Although I haven't had one of these in any of my systems, they seem to come with a lot of Dell and HP PC's/laptops. A lot of our customers use them and rarely seem to have any problems.
