Merlin, I'm acquainted with Pitstop. I worked with one of their people to help them come up with a Vista version of Disk MD. Their XP version is close, but there were still issues with the Vista application. I haven't checked back with them lately to see if they have all the bugs worked out or not.

I was trying to get them to incorporate a boot time system file defrag function.
Also, I'm was trying to get them to incorporate a CHKDSK function, kind of the way Norton did, with tighter specs than MS requires. Even SpinRite doesn't mark bad spots as bad. Before I reconfigured my HDD to exclude the bad stops (SpinRite did show me those even though it didn't mark them as bad.), I had to reinstall Vista so many times that now I have to buy a new copy of Vista for the new KEY. That 's one of my bitches with MS. They should provide a feedback on how many reinstalls you have left. Not that that would have mattered. Until I fixed my C: drive, Vista kept installing itself in the bad spots anyway.

Well, thanks for the input anyway. My code 2 and code 7 problems all stemmed from the bad C: drive. As soon as I fixed the C: drive the Code 2 and Code 7 error went away.
