AMD is the first company to release DirectX 11-supporting discrete graphics solutions (the Radeon HD 5700 & HD 5800 series) but it looks like the company will be taking its time to bring the new API to IGPs.

AMD Planning Price Cuts for Radeon HD 4800 models

For quite a while now, AMD has kept Nvidia in check with the pricing scheme of its Radeon line-up. Now they prepare to roll out the first DirectX 11 graphics cards and it is set to put even more pressure on Nvidia. According to a report AMD is prepping the ground for the launch of the RV870 cards and that includes cutting the price tag for all its Radeon HD 4800 models.

With Nvidia focusing on ION and Tegra, AMD arrived at Computex ready to show off the first DirectX 11-compliant hardware and say that when the new API arrives (on October 22nd with Windows 7), they will be the ready to support it. At the Taipei show AMD has some compute shaders and tessellation demos for viewing and it also displayed a TSMC-made 300mm wafer containing 40nm DirectX 11 GPUs (which you can see below).
