well MY system was given to me (as in i idndt buy it it was owned by soemone else who i guess bought a nnew one and gave me their old one) and it had windows installed on it already. As for cant legally install windows on multiple pcs from the same disc that the first Ive ever heard of it. So youre saying if someone had 5 PCs in their houise, theyd have to go out and buy 5 seprate copies of windows fo every pc instead of just buying 1 and installing it on all his home computers? Id have a hard time believing that, and even if it was true Im willing to bet n oone actually does it. For instance Im sure most of the mods on this forum have multiple PCs (or a pc annd a laptop) so that each have seperate copies of the same OS for each of their desktops and laptops?

Antoine,

Please review this Microsoft FAQ regarding piracy and licensing. You must truly own a separate license for EACH machine. To quote Microsoft from the URL cited
Each PC needs its own full license. To be properly licensed and receive technical support and updates, you must have a full underlying license for all software installed on each PC.
And yes, every mod & tech on PCHF has a legal and legitimate OS license for every PC in their home. The same is true for *most* software applications. There are some expections, but they are NOT the rule.

Regarding that your PC was given to you with an OS already installed, your recourse to obtaining a legal OS CD for that system is to either purchase a retail OS or contact the manufacturer and request a replacement OEM OS CD. Contacting the manufacturer will be your least expensive route.

As you said you don't require further assistance, I've marked this thread as resolved.
