Unhappy Windows System Suite

Howdy..
Surprised today with a rather ambitious attack by Windows System Suite. After researching this trojan I found a download to remove this product. Everything appears to have worked well except..

1) It had renamed or deleted my msconfig.exe - easily fixed by copying msconfigs.exe into the windows\system32 folder.

However...

2) During this attack Windows System Suite disabled my antivirus AVG. I have tried reinstalling AVG without success. The installation complains that an anti-virus software is already running - none I know of. When I go into my security center on Windows XP, virus protection is turned on and when one clicks on it I cannot disable it. In fact arrrrrggggg - this appears when I click on virus protection:

Windows System Suite reports that it is up to date and virus scanning is on.

This is a load of malarky. I have checked to make sure all recommend registry entries were deleted. Seems peachy to me.

So how can I resolve this issue in my Security Center, that is, remove any mention of Windows Security Suite, and turn off Windows anti virus so I can install AVG once again.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

picea,

First, let's make sure all the malware is gone. Chances are there are some leftover things we need to kill off. So, if you would please, click on the Prework link in my signature. This will take you to the steps you need to complete in order for your malware removal to begin.

Once you have completed the steps please post back here with the resulting two logs.

picea, have you been able to ward off the trojan and remaining malware yet?
