Hi there,
Got a worrying problem with my computer at the moment; I noticed the other day whilst playing an online game that my latency was spiking all over the place (50ms upto 300ms at times). This doesn't sound weird, but we pay 25pound a month for a 20mb line, so I expect better.
So i decided to investigate, finding that in Vista's resource monitor my CONSTANT internet usage was between 100 and
800 kbps whilst the computer is "idle" (no programs started by me). I had a quick look around and decided to try out NetLimiter to have a look at it (a friend suggested it). It turns out that I am constantly sending data to randomly changing IP addresses (the IP address shown in NetLimiter changes every second). So i limited the outgoing transfer rate to these changing IPs to 5kbps and my internet now runs fine, so this is obviously my problem.
What I am looking for is a good, detailed way to search through my computer for possible spyware/adware etc. (sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I didnt really know where to put it). Hope this is enough information for someone to help, below you will find my specs:
OS: Vista
CPU: Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
GFX: GeForce 8800GT
Ram: 3GB
ISP: Virgin Media
Thanks in advance,
Tom
