Possible virus? Need help.
Hi. I started my PC this morning and a "Found New Hardware" notice popped up notifying me that a certain "SoftFax V92 Data Modem" and "SoftFax V92 Data Modem #2" were found by my system. Shortly after, my PC rebooted. I tried to start it up again, but it would reboot over and over before I could disable the devices in the Device Manager. (a yellow exclamation point appeared beside the said devices)
1. I could not get a HijackThis! log because my PC kept rebooting.
2. My A/V is 1 week out of date because I don't have access to the internet at the moment (I'm typing from a computer in school at the moment)
The problem actually popped up a few days ago (just as my net access went down, talk about bad luck) but I was able to remedy the problem by disabling the devices in the Device Manager tab. Unfortunately, that method doesn't work anymore.
Any help or inkling as to what the problem might be and/or how to fix it is greatly appreciated, thank you.
