Anyways, my brother's been giving me headaches (he's 4 years younger) with his computer. I don't know what the heck he does with his computer, I've VNC'ed in, I've made it send me his history logs everytime he closes firefox, they're all clean! It's just stuff like DeviantART and what-not. YET! Somehow. He picks up all these massive spyware/malware, trojans, viruses, bugs, weird programs that bog down the machine, endless amounts, every week there's some 5+ programs installed on there that are just full of spam. Ad-Aware is going crazy keeping the stuff repressed, FireFox is just not doing anything (I'm sure it'd be 10x worse with IE though ) and AVG.. has it's work cut out. It's constantly going "AHHHHHHH VIRUS VIRUS VIRUS VIRUS!!!!" I spend about an hour everyday cleaning it out. I just don't understand, I've wiped it 6 times now I've installed what I know to prevent that stuff, and I, who go on more dodgy sites then him, with no Virus nor Firewall protection, never get anything on my computer except some occasional neglible threats that get cleaned out every friday.

So can someone please recomend some programs or ways to clamp down on the infections from my brother's computer. I'm starting to wonder if one day he won't catch a downloader that spreads across networks and compromises all the computers in the house.
I really have no clue how to keep the stuff supressed anymore, I can't keep formatting his stuff every weekend O.o

Heya DarkLord,

Does your brother use any sort of P2P software? Such as Limewire?

Also - FYI - IE7 is currently more secure then Firefox...

Thanks for the reply

Didn't know IE7 was better currently, but I don't really trust IE.

Anyways, I've scanned his computer, I've re-scanned, I've gone through half of the files manually, I've spent an entire night going through the registry for the most common stuff I know. I know he doesn't use P2P software, I'd be aware of it, there would be a massive bandwitdh drop

I've just un-installed a whole bunch of programs, it was clean for a whole 15mins, and we went to eat dinner, I came back, there was some 20+ popups plastered all over the desktop. I'm seriously considering blocking port 80.

Edit:

Infection spreads faster then I can delete stuff. O.o
I was deleting some files, and as I was looking up file names on google, I noticed the process list slowly grow smaller, process after process shutting itself down, first went explorer (doesn't it always?), then went all the internet protocol services, then went the rest and the computer crashed. I managed to boot back into Safe Mode, but it's screwing up even more badly then booting up into standard Windows. I've never had this happen to a computer. Think I need to reformat it (again)

Hmm, I've managed to delete some of them through SafeMode. I think I found all the downloaders.

I would really like some suggestions in terms of prevention software =\

Hey DL,

Honey you know better than to try to defeat malware piecemeal. A lot of the time it's HOW you remove it that counts. We've been through this.
OK, run PreWork with both SpySweeper and AVG ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTIONS NO IMPROVISING!!!!! OK? Post back the three logs here. and I'll take a look.

BTW, nice to see you.
