Default Strange screenshot folder icon keeps appearing on desktop!

I leave my computer in standby when not in use, and it wakes on ring, i have dialup service . Every now and then, when i come in the house, it is awake with a folder icon on the desktop, named screenshots. Theres never anything in the folder, and no info i can find on when it was created. Is it possible for some spyware program to be dialing out, with screenshots/info from my computer, and covering its tracks where i cant tell? Nothing shows up in event viewer, and Ewido, Avast, and Ad-Aware scans only show the usual tracking cookies. Is this just a windows glitch, or does it sound like spyware, and how can i find it and get rid of it? Thanks
Uncleed

When I was still on dialup years ago, my brother used to goto these "naughty" websites, and every now and then instead of dialing to the internet, a certain website would have changed the dial number to some international porn bulliton (spelling) board.

But aside from that, I don't know what else could be causing it. One of the other guys should be able to help you out more.

Hya Uncleed.

Can you post an Hijackthis log? See download link below in my sig, start the app, select the top option to "do a system scan and save a log file" , then attach that log that comes up to a post please.

And let's also run an online AV scan:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

When done , also post the log from that please.

Your HijackThis log looks clean to me.

Here is a scanner that can be run using Firefox (No ActiveX controls needed):
TrendMicro™ HouseCall Java Scan
  • Please go HERE to run the Trend Micro™ HouseCall Scan.
  • Click Scan now. It's free!
  • Read and put a Check next to Yes I accept the terms of use.
  • Click the Launching HouseCall>> button.
  • If confirmed that HouseCall can run on your system, under Using Java-based HouseCall kernel click the Starting HouseCall>> button.
  • You may receive a Security Warning about the TrendMicro Java applet, click YES.
  • Under Scan complete computer for malware, grayware, and vulnerabilities click the Next>> button.
  • Please be patient while it installs, updates, and scans your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will take you to the summary page.
Was anything found, other than cookies?

Sorry for the delay, had to download and install jre, and that with the scan, took 4 hrs with this slow connection. Anyway, the Housecall scan came up clean. I guess maybe its just a windows problem, and its time for a repair install. In the time ive spent trying to diagnose this, i could have already dont that. lol But i wanted to be reasonably sure it wasnt some type of infection that would reoccur. Thanks for all the help.

I'm more tending to think it might be an screenshot program, or a game with screenshot taking options that is creating that folder.

Does it happen only when doing something specific maybe?
