Default [Answered] Security Software Advice needed

After weeks of problems with my pc I need some advice. I only have freeware installed to protect my pc and sometimes the programms seem to miss attacks. So I am now looking for a programme (I am willing to buy one) that does not miss anything and that protects me from viruses, mal- and spware and other attacks. It should include a firewall, antivirusprotection and everything else I need. Which programm has all this included and is reliable?

Hi there Chipper.

There is not one single app that can do that im afraid.

But have a look at these:

Firewall:

Comodo
or
ZoneAlarm free

AV:

AVG
or
Avast

Malware:

Windows defender
or
Spybot
or
Ad Aware

And as an addition to that I.E spyad and Spywareblaster.

(all free , and available in our download section)

Panda Platinum-- is an all-in-one that I've used on my kids' computer with great success. On my PC-- I run Zone Alearm Pro/AVG Pro/Trojanhunter Pro. I don't believe in putting 'all my eggs in one basket' so to speak, so I go on their machine & run Ad-Aware/Spybot scans regularly. If you want to keep expense to a minimum... Comodo -- as Joe recommended for a firewall... and AVG free antivirus- combined with spybot/ad-aware are quite a combo. The only issue is that freeware requires manual updates. A paid program usually has auto-update features. (Panda does-- with an annual subscription fee) It does a good job ...too.

What kind of problems where those? It might be advisable that you run format c:\ and start out fresh if you haven't done so already.

Either way, I let Norton Internet security 2006 protect my pc against all those nasty hazards. It comes with antivirus and a firewall that already block your pc from most problems. Other modules take care of spyware, adware, spam, popups, phishing attempts and if you have kids there is an extra program that controls where they can go on the internet.

I got rid of the problems, luckily, without formatting. (just lots of messed up stuff; so short of formatting it meant to check out drivers, uninstall whatever wasn't needed, etc.)

Not sure what it was, but it helped. (Just generall weirdness of windows, being slow, more crashes than usual, etc.)

I did get Norton Internet Security, and I feel much safer now.

despite my newly gained feeling of safety, I am wondering if it might be a good idea to upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2007 now that it's available.

Can anyone comment on this?
