Default running pc maintenance

Me and my sister Fay need help on running maintenance on our computers. We have a list we were running once a week then we upped it to every couple of weeks. we had a short list before, now we have a longer list. The list is as follows:
1. %Temp%
2. ATF cleaner
3. delete files, cookies, history in internet options
4. disk cleanup
5. spybot search and destroy (whichever one is installed)
6. adaware (whichever one is installed)
7. virus scan
8. error check (check 2nd box)
9. error check at boot (checking both boxes)
10. defrag
11. pc pitstop
12. windows live safety scan ---this is something new we have found which i havent run yet but my sister has. she says its awesome.
Anyway my question is ..is that list too long? is there a certain order that it should be run? how often should we be running them? can we add each one in scheduled tasks? well first we were running them manually, now we would like to know if it would be a good idea to do it in schedule tasks? Thank you. sorry we are still a little new but we are definitely learning.

Hya Kay.

You can skip step 1 and 3 since step 2 and 12 will already do that for you.

And i myself hardly ever run step 8 and 9 , only when i suspect something is wrong maybe.

And looking at what else you are doing , step 11 is not neccesary. I highly doubt you'll benefit from it.

I haven't tried 12 myself yet , first ive heard of it , but it looks pretty decent.

What AV are you using? Also i would add a registry cleaner to the list. Something like regsupremepro:

install and run RegSupremePro. It will want to make a backup of your registry , let it. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds.

Hi Kay and a warm welcome to PCHF,
I can recommend Ccleaner (**** Cleaner) which automatically can run step 1,3 and 4 for you.
I personally don't run any tool besides a registry cleanup tool and my own on demand virusscanner.
Also I prefer not cleaning any messes, but prevent getting into one by following a few guidelines. I don't know how many people use the computer but when it's only adults sitting behind the computer, take a look here. Follow the 'basic' rules and you'll stay out of trouble. when you've also got children using the computer, it sounds really annoying, but education does it, as well as supervision.
When you want to run some tools now and then, online virusscans are a good starter, as well as adaware, spybot search and destroy and ewido,
Bram

As for the regcleaner, I use this one. But be very carefull with regcleaners. When you sue the one I linked to, only use tools->scan->do them all.
Bram

Yup , Ccleaner is a very good app , but ive stopped recommending that one since they added a Yahoo toolbar.. (can be deselected during installation though) I've switched to ATF now.

first of all...im writing on behalf of my sister too...im using mcafee internet security suite and my sister fay is using yahoo online protection. how often should they be run and which order? windows live safety scan catches registry entries but not sure if it caught them all. would that be the same RegSupremePro, if not can you recommend a free registry cleaner. we have registry scrub xp, but it looks tooooo complicated. We have never used a registry cleaner. We would prefer a really good and simple and especially free one. Do you mind answering the questions in order? Thanks.
