Default NAS: Is It Safe?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum so consider this my greeting and a request for opinions.

I just set up a NAS/fileserver on a box (os Win XP Pro SP2) that I recently replaced. As of today I have avast AV (free), ewido (paid), SpywareBlaster, & Sygate Personal FW (free) doing my protection on this machine.

I use remote desktop to view this machine and all seems OK. The reason I chose these apps is due to the fact that they require the least user intervention. (at least so far) Everything is set to auto-update.

Am I reasonably protected? Any opinions are welcome.

One issue I ran into: After a windows auto-update, I was unable to log on using remote desktop. I had to connect a keyboard, mouse, monitor. Is there a way to prevent this in the future. It's a bit of a pain...

Thanks!

...screamer

Hya Screamer , welcome to PCHF.

Yup , sounds like a good set of apps to protect youre pc.

And for the remote desktop/winupdate prob.. im afraid it will always be that when MS fixes one thing with an update , then often something else gets messed up while doing that..

But it probebly was something specific to just that update , i wouldn't expect it to happen again i think.
