There are two HTML documents and two GIF images similarly labelled, and NOTHING seems to be able to get rid of them....(cackling manically)

I'll look, but, er...what's a rootkit? Thanks again, but if no-one on this forum with plenty of years more experience than me doesnt know what they are, im beginning to get worried...could it possibly be some sort of Hard Disk sector corruption? Like a corrupted residue of a file already deleted? Like I said, a lot of progs say they can't read the file at all.

Actually ive just had a slight brainwave, as to what it might just possibly be...though probably wrong. My wife's Japanese, and she's installed several language add-ons in the past, to Word etc, and then there's the XP language files...the strange casing and accents might show its some sort of corrupted file left over, still being used by XP for translation purposes, but not showing in Japanese kanji letters as I havent installed them this time round. I'll try to see if there's any Japanese programs installed that might be using the files, and delete them first...ill get back to you...

Sounds like a good idea and could be possible i think. Also did you look with the rootkit scanners , and do they find anything?

Rootkits are just more nasty malware then normall , they can make them self invisible..
