Default [Answered] Cursor Moves by it self!

Hey There,

I have a very strange problem my cursor moves by itself , sometimes I think its haunted lol. Anyway this is my problem

My cursor moves by itself and I have no control over it. It is only my laptop mouse and I need my laptop mouse to work while traveling. The external mouse works fine but now if I move my laptop mouse I can't get it back to control it moves any where it likes mostly to the ends of the screen! Normally I restart my pc or it settles down. This has been a big problem since a month. I had re-formated this pc so many times. And I never had this problem but last month I called a local computer store to bring thier software enginers to do it. They did it . And Installed Norton Antivirus 2004. And I ran a virus check and it found no viruses. Then I installed Mcafee Antivirus it found 8 Viruses which Norton Did not find. And i deleated them. It worked fine for the morning and then in the afternoon my cursor went crazy . And from that afternoon onwards i hae the same problem. My external mouse is a Logictech Wheel Mouse. And I called the computer store because I wanted to upgrade my Windows from 2000 To XP. But I had upgraded to XP Before And installed SP2 and nothing happend. This problem is really getting on my nerves!!!!! And the virus name was mouse.exe and ss.exe. And I had formated my C:\ Drive So the virus couldnt be present in the computer. Do You Think it could have been in thier Windows XP CD. And I had saved my files in D: and they were all curoupt and had the name !@$@!$!@$!@$@!$8021 . All most all the files were like this. And when i opened them they said the file could not be found. I have run Spyware Checks too by using Mcafee Spyware , Spybot , Ad-Aware, AOL Spyware Remover. They did not find any spyware. So I dont think spyware is a problem . If you want to know what my system is . It is a

Compaq Armada M700 Laptop
Pentium III 700 MHZ
256 MB RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2
8 MB ATI RAGE VIDEO CARD

I want to re-format my laptop but right now I am on vication and I dont have the cds. I dont know what to do.

Cheers to Everyone! :

Hi there rahulras15? ?Welcome to PCHF.

To start with I would like you to do this:

First disable system restore to prevent re-infection.
(you can turn it back on when youre pc is clean).

How to disable system restore:

WinXP.

Click the Start button.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
On the System Restore tab, check Turn off System Restore or Turn off System Restore on all drives.

WinME.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon.
If the System icon is not visible, click View all Control Panel options to display it.
On the Performance tab, click File System.
On the Troubleshooting tab check Disable System Restore.
Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.

Then please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders:
(do not delete the temp folder itself)
(if there are "files in use" then empty these folders in safemode(hit f8 when booting up)

empty the C:\windows\prefetch folder ,
empty the C:\windows\temp folder ,
empty the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp folder ,
empty the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder EXCEPT the content.ie5 folder (may be hidden).
(replace administrator with youre user name)

And close all instances of IE and OE ,then go to: Control Panel / Internet Options / General tab.
Click the "Delete Files" button.
When prompted place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK. This removes the junk files such as downloaded files, zero byte files created by Outlook Express and many other hidden files that reside in your cache.

Do a virus scan here. Or select one here.
Also run Stinger - Trojan Remover.
If you get report of files that can?t be cleaned/deleted please write down the filenames and locations and post that in your reply.

Then please do this since it?s better to use automated tools to get rid of the bad stuff use these programs first before doing the final cleaning with HJT.

Spybot: Search And Destroy:

1.Download the new version (1.4) of 'Spybot: Search And Destroy'.

2. Install it according to the instructions in 'How To Setup Spybot SD'.

3. Next, 'Search for Updates' as the definitions are not likely to be up-to-date.

4. Close ALL windows except Spybot SD.

5. Click the "Check for Problems" button.

6. Click 'Fix Selected Problems' and fix only the RED items.

7. REBOOT to finish removing what Spybot SD found and clear memory.

Ad-Aware SE by Lavasoft:

1. Download 'Ad-Aware SE'.

2. Install according to the instructions in? "How To Setup Ad-Aware SE"

3. Next, 'Check for Updates' by clicking on the 'world globe' second from the right at the top of your Ad-Aware SE window.

4. Install the updates.

5. Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE.

6. Click on 'Start' and choose 'full scan' for a full scan.

7. Quarantine anything that it finds and SAVE the log file.

8.REBOOT to finish removing what Ad-Aware SE found and clear memory.

Then please post a new HJT log as a reply to this topic.

BTW, can I handle this one guys, I referred him .

:-) Hey Guys,

Joe, would that account for the corruption of rahulras' other files. I have had my mouse taken over before, but reformatting and reinstalling corrected the problem, which I suspect was sometype of malware. However, he states that he has repeatedly reformatted.

rahulras, is it possiblem that you are reinfecting your machine with locations that you are going to? How long after you reformat does the problem reserface?

Also, Joe is right you could potentially be deleting legit files from a false positive. But I think your problem is more complicated than that.

Perhaps we should have him do an ewido scan and post the log to see if anything shows up.

I think the corruption is a separete problem , but lets see what the spyware scans and hjt log comes up with.

@rahulras15? ?, go into youre device manager and uninstall the driver for that mouse , reboot and let windows install it again or use the installation cd from it. Maybe the mouse prob is gone then and also then you could test to see if Mcafee "finds" it again.
