hi, i have a really big problem, everytime i start my computer (windows 98) it boots up to the desktop screen but there is nothing on the desktop apart from a black screen, the only thing visible is the toolbar (with the start button etc) at the bottom, and it won't respond to anything, the only thing that works is pressing ctrl+alt+del which takes me to the close program box, where the only programs running are explorer and Spoolsrv32 (which i gather is a trojan), now i can't acces anything (i'm posting this from a friends computer), i tried running it in safe mode and it boots up properly but as soon as i double click on anything or press the start button it freezes and i have to reset, i also tried to install windows 98 again (not format cos i need my files) but it wouldnt let me (something about a hard drive being something), please does neone know of a way to get into my computer without having to format it because i really need my files :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

spoolsrv32.exe is a process associated with the TopAntiSpyware Malware.

Try the following:

Boot into safe mode
Click on START? -- RUN? -- then type REGEDIT and press enter, scroll to the following location.

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CUR RENTVERSION\RUN"

Might be worth taking note of what is in there and letting us know, but if you see anything strange e.g a whole lot of numbers or the spoolsrv32.exe then delete that "key".

Once you have done that click on start - find - files or folders and search for spoolsrv32.exe, if you find it, delete it.

Might also be worth downloading Adaware or Spybot on your friends machine, copy it onto disk and try run it in safemode on your computer.

hi, thanks for the advice but i cant even do anything in safe mode :cry: :cry: :cry: everytime i double click on something or press the start button in safe mode it freezes and i have to reset! :cry: :cry: i guess theres no hope! is there any way i can just access my documents and save the files onto a backup, because then i could just reformat. thanks again for any help

If you have another computer then you could remove your hard drive and plug it into the other machine. You could then transfer all of you information across.
