Default [Information/Pending] virus infection

Hi Forum, new interface, cool!?
Right, new problem with my PC again.

(1) I have not download anything recently but suddenly while surfing the Net, the IE page disappeared and there's this www.horseserver.net page popping out.
1 page was showing viagra pills, another page showing sex.? :-( Total **** off.

(2) Now whenever I switch on the PC, there will be this prompt stating "Is your PC infected with spyware?" I've to click No to get rid of it.

(3) I've dl a printer driver (secured source) for my Epson printer. It was working fine, able to print etc etc. However, whenever my PC is switch on, the PC will prompt "a new hardware is found..." But I tot I've aldy installed properly? Why the prompt again?

I would like to ask is, is it virus infection or spyware or wat got into my pc? Should I get antivirus (currently PC is not protected), firewall?

Plus, I want to get porn-blocker. how shld i go abt it?

It looks like it is Spyware that has gotten into your machine.

Best thing to do is download and install this software:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...RSS,RSS,00.asp

That should solve all your pop-ups and your homepage switching to things like "horseserver"

What model is your printer and is it USB or Parallel?

Have you upgraded your Windows to Service Pack 2 because this comes with a built in Firewall. (not the best but its free and better than nothing)

The Microsoft AntiSpyware should take care of any porn popups seeing as though it has "Real Time Protection" but if you want other tools checkout the download section.
(there is also Free Firewall software there)

When software is released, in this case Windows XP, problems are found within the software and also loop holes are found (which could be targeted by hacker/viruses)

Microsoft then fix the problem and release a service pack for people to download. The Service Pack will contain all the fixes for that software.

Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com/ and install any updates that are available. If you are still running Service Pack 1 then the updates may take a while to download.

Download these two programs as well.

AVG Antivirus (Free) - Download and install this (also update the virus definitions) and scan your machine for viruses.

Once you have scanned for viruses it would be worth running the Microsoft Antispyware again or alternatively you can download and run this program.
Spybot

I sgjest having McAfee anti virus and ad-aware 6.0 . I have them both and so far no viruses yet. And when u download fiels or anything off the web ALWAYS check the file and scan it with an anti-virus program. Thats a common mistake. hope i helped
