Default [Answered] Please help! Huge delays in XP!

I've been experiencing very long delays in XP when trying to open mp3 files, word docs, bring up the start menu, and right clicking things to bring up the drop-down menu. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing the delays? :|

Hi,

You may have a program that is hogging all your processor. Right click on the task bar and select "Task Manager" - hit the "Processes" tab and then the CPU at the top - this will show you what programs are using in terms of the processor. Does anything look strange there?

I am having the same problem. When I try to open my music folder it is really slow. In the task manager my pop up blocker runs at 98-99, is this normal? I have about 10 gigs of mp3s. I copied my cds to my hard drive. I just recently added a few more cds. Would this also cause the computer to run slow?

Hi there and welcome to PCHF.

No, your pop-up blocker should be un-installed and go find another one (XP SP2 has a great one). The quantity of data shouldn't slow down your PC - have you defragmented the hard drive lately?

Also could you post a hijack this log... It canbe downloaded from my signature..save uit to your documents and click on hijack this.. click scan and create log... save the log as a text file and upload it on a new reply and I would be happy to move the log to the correct forum.. Hengis is correct XP SP2 built in pop-up blocker is great... No need for a second one..Or one that takes up that much cpu power...

I have took all the suggestions from this forum to speed up my computer (defrag, CCleaner, clear prefetch file, etc.). My popup blocker is Stopzilla. I have spybot, adaware, avast antivirus, spyware blaster, and spyware guard. All but Stopzilla were installed by a pc repair shop about 6 months ago. This "slow down" just happened after I put the last few cds on my hard drive a couple of days ago. Since then my pc has been really slow. Sorry Pooface I don't mean to hijack your post.
