Default music isn't playing well

All music playbacks on my computer (all programs, CD's, and DVD's) don't play correctly. They stall and sound scratchy as if the computer doesn't have enough memory to do that and other stuff at the same time. BUT I have 4 gigs of RAM and a Dual Core processor and creativelabs sound card which all seem to be working correctly. I need some ideas of what I can tweak on my computer to fix this problem. I have tried changing the bit-rate and the Herz frequency but it doesn't seem to help one way or the other.

Hello and welcome to PCHF,

I'll mark this thread open so it attracts our highly skilled tech staff.

Have you tried changing the speakers itself? Also have you tried updating the drivers?

Regards,

Clever_Duck

As Clever_Duck said -

First reinstall/update the drivers for your sound card.

What happens?

If still failure then consider your sound card/chip may be faulty.

Thank You...I've tried changing the speakers so I know it's not that. I tried three different sets of speakers and got the same result with all of them. (These speakers work fine with other computers). I've also made sure I have the latest driver for the sound card installed. I'm still experiencing the problem. Any other suggestions?
Also as far as the sound card being faulty...I had the same problem with my onboard sound card and the new creativelabs sound blaster card that I recently installed. That's one of the reasons why I got the new sound card...I thought my onboard was faulty.

Hopefully elpmek or any other tech staff will take it from here, as this is getting out of my expertise.

So either operating sytem or motherboard. OS first............

Assuming XP Go:

Start - Run - (type) sfc /scannow (with the space)(Enter)

sfc = System File Checker restores files to their correct state.

This may require you to put in your XP CD.

Well, that didn't do it...so I'm guessing you are going to say that it's my motherboard? So that sucks....because if my motherboard is faulty, I'll just have to get a new one, right?
