I reinstalled Windows XP Home SP2, installed the additional drives provided on the motherboard manufacturer's website, updated to SP3, updated remaining drivers to Device Manager's satisfaction, and yet there is still no sound. I have no problems highlighted in Device Manager.
I receive the message 'There are no mixer devices available...' and there is 'No audio device' shown in Control Panel/Sound & Audio Devices Properties.
I have checked the BIOS to ensure 'AC97' is enabled and checked that Windows Audio in Services starts and is on automatic.
I have downloaded, run, deleted, reloaded, etc., more audio drivers than I can reasonably mention.
My desktop PC has a MSI 865GM3-LS motherboard (previously known as MSI MS-7037 Ver 1) and I am running on the onboard sound only.
Can somebody help?
p.s. My monitor's volume control is turned on!
