Hey,

I've got a problem with my sound whereby, regardless of what I'm playing and where I'm playing it from, the sound will intermittently stutter for a few seconds then go back to normal.

I know it's not the Soundcard as I've just switched from intergrated sound to a Creative Sound Blaster and the stutter was persist throughout. I've also managed to work out that it's tied to my CPU (Via Task Manager) as whenever the stuttering occurs my CPU usage jumps from the 20% mark to around 50% and then back down again but I'm unsure what to do with this new found revelation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you go to your user CP and fill in your computer specs please.

Have you updated your drivers?

What are you using to play say music files or video?WMP?Have you got the latest codecs/decoder/plugins?

Not sure which specs you're after but this much I know:

AMD Athlon 3000+
XP - SP3
80GB Hard Drive
1.50 GB Ram
Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio

All drivers are upto date and I mainly use either Media Player or Media Source but the problem crops up everywhere; in VLC, YouTube, playing GuildWars.

Need anything else?

Youtube can be choppy.

Try this uninstall new sound card from device manager and reboot pc let found new hardware install it and disable onboard sound card.

But YouTube's just a symptom, regardless of where the sound comes from, it suffers.

Far as I know Codecs etc. are all upto date as well.

1.Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. 2.Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 3.Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click your CD-ROM drive, and then click Properties. 4.Click to clear the Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device check box, and then click OK. 5.On the File menu, click Exit to close the Device Manager window.

To determine if a third-party DVD decoder is installed, click Start, click Run, type dvdupgrd/detect in the Open box, and then click OK.

I think this thread might be on the wrong board now. I've just run 'ProcessExplorer' and apparently it's something called Deferred Procedure Calls that are spiking exactly when the audio stutters.

Buggered if I know what's causing them though.
