Default Please help, my sound suddenly stopped. I'm going crazy!

I have a Dell Inspiron B120 Laptop, Windows XP SP2. On occasion, my sound will stop, but usually when I restart the computer it comes back on.

In this instance, my sound was working until I closed my laptop and opened it 20-30 minutes later. The sound has ceased to play for hours regardless of my restarting or attempting to do Windows and Driver updates. I have checked the levels of the audio and they are just fine. I also can hear nothing with headphones. I am too afraid to do a system restore or screw around in the system registry so I have been ignoring those possible solutions.

This is the properties of my drivers and such, and hopefully someone will help... This no sound thing is driving me crazy. xD

Hi-- welcome to PCHF.

I am afraid you'll have to overcome your fears-- the best way to fix this is to uninstall/renstall your soundcard drivers.
Driver updates are often to fix unforseen issues in some hardware/software.

Your latest one was just released in 12/07--

Drivers and Downloads

There is tons of help-- either through chat/tutorials/or phone to wal you through this-- if the machine is new enough it amybe a warranty issue.

Thanks for your quick help!!

I think I'll be okay as long as I know exactly what it is I am doing. Once I save the .exe file to my HD do I go to the audio drivers and remove it?

It is generally best to remove old drivers before installing new ones-- there is a whole help page at Dell on this subject...

see here: read as much as you can first--it is NOT hard this will just explain what to expect...
