I just recently bought a mic/headphone unit from HP and got home to find out I cant get the mic to work. Ive gone through all sound settings and made sure mic is unmuted and and turned up, ive updated my sound card drivers, which by the way is a Sounblaster Audigy that is brand new. I've read alot a few other forums(here and on other sites) about the problem but still couldnt get it to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

What is the model of your HP Mic?

Also, you could try the following:

Hit Start, type 'Run', type 'dxdiag' into the box and the DirectX diagnostic tool will open.
Inside, there are audio test which you can run including Mic tests. See how you get on and let us know the results.

Buy an Premium Stereo Headset (RF823AA#ABA) from HP

This is the headset i got. 30$ from walmart should be sufficient.

I have not run the dxdiag because i am at work now but will be home in a while.

And i'm pretty sure that the mic mute button is unmuted but im not sure if its push-to-talk or just mute/unmute.

Ok.
Then once you've arrived home and tested it, let us know.

ok, go ahead and mark as solved. The jacks in the back of the card were colored funny:

Green-Speakers(no problem)
Orange/Pinkish-thought was mic, but was actually spdif
Blue-Mic(without a mic logo next to it)

Dang Sounblaster needs to label better.
