Default [Pending] Confused about no sound...

OK. I have just got a dvi-hdmi converter and connected it up to my SONY KDS-55A2000 TV and now have full HD resolution, which I'm very happy about.

Before I used the "PC" input and had the sound connected with a green pin in both ends, one going in to the nicely labelled "PC IN" in the back of the TV. Well now that I have the pc connected via HDMI (DVI first) I am using AV5 or AV6 (the HDMI inputs) and this now means the "PC IN" part of the TV is currently useless.

I have AV5 and AV6, both HDMI input and also a AV6 Red & White inputs which is for the sound (or so the instruction manual says), which i have connected to my pc, where I had before (the green output, although this cable's black)

And I hear no sound although the tests suggests I should. The only thing telling me I have a problem (besides my ears) is iTunes)

Hope that all makes sense and someone can help me.

FYI... I have Vista and Realtek High Defintion Audio

Hello MCallus Welcome to PCHF

Ok, I'm not 100% on how you have it set up by your description, but this is what should work:

You should have one end of the DVI cable connected to the computer and the other end of the DVI cable with HDMI adapter on it should be connected to the TV in AV6. Then for your audio, you should have a mini jack to RCA cable. One side of the cable is a typical mini sound jack and the other side is a red/white left/right channel RCA cable. The mini jack will be connected to your speaker output on your sound card and then the other end will be the red/white RCA side to the TV in AV6.

You have to make sure when you plug each in to the TV that they are both for the same source, which they should be right beside each other. It sounds like your AV6 input has both an HDMI and RCA, so those are the ones you should be connected to.

If it is set up correctly, all you will do is choose AV6 as your source on your TV.

Hope that helps!

If your using HDMI and want to use sound from a different source im guessing there will have to be some sort of audio override as the hdmi connection is expecting audio through it
What is your gfx card? the newer ATI models HD2400 and above carry both audio and video through HDMI if your pc is capable it may be worth considering this upgrade

That is correct, if you hook it up as I described, you may have to change a setting in the TV to tell it to go through the RCA ports for audio. It should just take the audio from the RCA jacks though. When you choose that source, it just puts out whatever is coming through the respective inputs.

I have connected the RCA to a stereo system and everything works perfectly. But I still can't connect it to my TV and have the sound play. I have tried to change the sound target input from Common and AV6 and there is no sound on either. I don't understand.

Try a different input on your TV...such as a simple Composite or S-Video input and just plug the sound in then switch it to that input. If sound comes out on other inputs in your TV, but not your HDMI input on your TV, then there may be a setting on your TV to get the sound on the HDMI input to go out through RCA instead of HDMI.

As Zinglebarb said, HDMI is for video AND sound, so when you change to an HDMI source, by default the TV may be expecting the sound to come through the HDMI cable. You may have to change a setting on the TV to tell it when it's on AV6, to use RCA for sound instead of HDMI.

I don't know if you have a Sony PS3, but it may be set up like that. When you use HDMI, it asks where you want the video to come from AND where you want the sound to come from. It's a very nice system.

Something that may help is if you post the make/model of your TV and if you can take a picture close up of the inputs on the back of the TV the way you have it hooked up. Maybe I can get a better understanding that way.
