[Answered] Multimedia Audio Controller For Gateway mx6438
Hello everyone, this is my first post and I have an interesting problem. I hope some of you can help, and I am also excited to be able to lend some help on other forums on topics that I am knowledgeable in.
I am looking for a sound driver for a Gateway mx6438 notebook that I am working on for a friend. The notebook originally ran win xp home edition. After realizing that the computer was too overwhelmed with trojans and adware, I re-formatted the hdd and installed win xp pro. I have updated the other drivers but the sound driver supplied through gateway's website is only compatible with win xp home edition and not win xp pro according to some research I have done on the web. (I did attempt installing the driver & it does not work). So as of right now I have a fresh installation of win xp pro that has everything working fine except any sound! I ran aida32 in an attempt to find out the actual type of sound card that is installed on the system but it was unable to list, so I am at a loss of what to do now!
Other cpu info:
AMD Turion64 CPU 1790 MHz
1 GHz RAM

Hello and welcome to PCHF, I`ll start with the basics first, have you tried going into device manager, right clicking on the multimedia audio controller then selecting "update driver" then letting it search online

Ok, i`ve been and done some research and it seems you are not the only person in the world having this problem>Gateway MX6436 Audio driver issue [Archive] - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion ... it seems that there are no XP Pro sound drivers for Gateway notebooks so it looks like you will have to put XP Home or Vista on there if you want sound

Thanks, I was hoping that wasn't what it was going to come to...I guess I will ask the user for the home edition cd. This is my first experience working with a Gateway & I must say I am very disappointed with the logic behind this.
