Default Sound Card Problem

Model: Gateway MX6428 Notebook
Soundcard: Conexant AC-Link Audio
Problem: Okay, I had to format/reinstall Windows XP Media Edition onto my laptop, due to a critical error. I have already installed most of my other drivers, but I am having a problem with my audio driver. I am trying to install the driver for my sound card, but when I start the installation program, it gives me what I am installing, which is the "Conexant AC-Link Audio", when I click install the window disappears and then reappears about 45 seconds later saying "FAILURE". . . What do I do?

What shows next to the sound card in device manager? Is there a yellow exclamation mark, or red cross, or anything else??

It doesn't appear on the Device Manager, because it isn't installed yet. I went to support.gateway.com, entered my serial number, and downloaded the drivers, this specific driver won't work.

Looks like Windows is not recognising the sound card. Possibly a fooked sound card. Verify this if you're able to try the card in another pc.

Did you get an installation cd with the computer? If so, have you ran all the setup files on it?
