Default [Answered] Sound on Video messenger

Hi,
I have managed to get a good connection on Windows Messenger re the video. The sound however is a problem. I have a camera with a built in mic. When speaking I get an echo/echo/echo. I have tried to move the speakers as far apart as possible but am not having any success. Can someone please advise me how to correct this problem?
Thanks

Hello Starlite,

Ideally, you should be wearing a headset, but also check your volume settings:

- Double click on the Volume icon in your system tray (bottom right next to the clock).
- Go to Options, followed by Properties.
- Click on Recording followed by OK
- Make sure "Stereo"/"Stereo Mix", "Microphone", "Line In" and any other input devices your using doesn't have the Select ticked, but putting the tick in any other recording device.

^ This will need to be done on both sides.

Hi,Mad Monkey,
Okay I have done all you suggest. Can I check the results any other way than calling the person I want on Messenger,ie on my m/c?
Alan

Well you can use Skype (similar to Messenger: Download Skype for Windows), this has a test caller facility, but anything else wont be an effective test.

I have tried all you suggest but it hasn`t cured my problem.I have removed the speakers I have attached and inserted headphones..no joy.I have tried different phones and everything I can think of.Is this a case of feedback or interference from some other hardwear do you think? I don`t have any problem hearing the person I speak to. It`s one of those things that drive you up the wall.

Alan

Yes it is an echo.I thought something else may be interfering with the sound, hardware or something.

Hardware problems can cause interfearance, but not echo. If your mic can pickup your speaker then you will hear an echo of whatever is coming out of the speaker. The same applies if your sound properties have your microphone selected (ruled out in post #3).

If you can hear an echo of your own voice, then this will be a problem at the other end of the line for the same reasons (your voice is being projected out of their speaker, and coming back in through the mic).

EDIT: Marked as Answered.

Thanks for the update Starlite. I much prefer Skype, never been very keen on Messenger myself.
