Unhappy New Sound Card doesn't work

OK here is the problem (great re-design btw, i haven't been on this site for almost a year!)

-Bought a new Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and installed it in PCI slot 3 (there are only 3), the one furthest away from Video Card.
-Disabled onboard sound in BIOS
-logged into XP Prof and installed drivers for new card but during install it said "Installation can't find any Creative hardware connected to your PC". Then I realized the PC doesn't recognize the Sound Card.

Now I did some research and found some stuff about IRQ and sharing PCI slots and what not but I have no idea what IRQ means or how it works and its relation to PCI and I also have no idea why it always better to install the sound card in a PCI slot closest to the video card when the other PCI slots are specifically designed to add peripherals to your PC.

Someone please help! Thanks
