Default Auzentech Prelude installation w/ major confusion

I just bought an Auzentech Prelude to replace my Creative Xtreme gamer card which stopped working properly. Problem is the card doesn't have a place to plug the cord which was running from my motherboard to my previous card. This really surprised me. Even the Creative card that it replaced (very very similar cards) used this connector.. Is this card just not going to work with my computer? Do I need to buy another connector? I've uploaded a photo of the connector I'm talking about.

This card has me so confused.. It doesn’t help that it comes with next to NO documentation. All that it says is open the case, plug the thing in, secure it with a screw, and go run the software installation (which btw is telling me I need Vista O.o).. uh.. no.. I’m missing some steps here!!

eta: Okay I have sound.. but it's doing really strange things. The speakers are passing sound back and forth but both are not playing at the same time. There is also random crackling and feedback. The sound is nowhere near as good as the Creative card.. Addionally this card is unable to produce even as much sound as even the Soundblaster 24-bit and nowhere NEAR what the X-fi Creative card could. It sounds.. thin and tinny so it was prob to do with that cable huh? Was that a digital connector?

Hi there,

That cable is not needed, it's a 10 pin connector that connects the front panel audio jacks to the sound card, usually they just get connected to your motherboard headers.

Do you know how to uninstall drivers? If not I'm sure we can work through it. If so make sure you have the drivers and software for the xfi and any other sound drivers and then reinstall making sure they are the newest drivers for your card

Hope this helps

Thank you for the connector explanation.

I downloaded and installed the newest drivers from Auzentech.com. I had already uninstalled the previous sound card's drivers before I even pulled it out so it shouldn't be a compatibility issue. It's stopped doing all the crappy cutting out and crackling stuff and it's sounding much MUCH better now. I didn't do anything. It just decided it was going to stop being cranky.. I dunno maybe it was trying to configure itself on the first few songs I listened. Still sounds thin compared to Creative though. Although the Auzentech sounds more clear.. sharper. I don't get why.. I am going to try buying RCA connectors instead of using the RCA to 35 connector. I would really like to find a happy medium between the Auzentech's sharpness and the Creative's fullness LOL
