This is a relatively new laptop and i am getting frustrated with it it. I got this laptop in august and about 2 days ago the sound has stopped working. Any ideas on what paths i should take to try and fix this? I tried downloading the newest driver from HP.com but it still didn't work. When i try to play windows media player it says there is no driver installed or something.

try upgrading windows mediaplayer... That is if you dont have the latest version.

I don't think its windows media player. None of my other programs will play any sounds either. I keep getting this message saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functinoing properly."

I am pretty darn sure there is a sound device installed, becuase just 3 days ago it was working fine... -.-

Oh i am using windows vista by the way. Has anyone else come across a problem like this?

It had something to do with the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder in the services.msc

It was somehow disabled, so it started a chain reaction in disabling other audio settings.... i got angry and decided to enable every and it worked.... no idea what these things do..
