Default Should I use an older driver instead?

Hey everyone, just a few days ago I updated the sound driver for my x-fi xtreme music which was released on Oct. 9. My sound works fine for normal tasks in windows, and also watching movies online, listening to music, etc. My games however have the problem. It ran fine before, but since the update, sound does not correctly work in BF2142. In audio options, the specific 'x-fi' box is checked, and so is the sound setting for 'ultra high', but nothing plays. I can change the option to hardware, and then back to x-fi, but a few times it has crashed after doing this. Once I start it again, it's the same process. Also, there is a major sound issue for the newly released Crysis demo. The sound is disgustingly choppy like watching tv with horrible reception. All of my graphical settings are turned to low and that point, the game runs fine graphically - so I don't think it's some sort of overall slowdown. Just to note - I updated the driver before playing the demo so I'm not possitive it's related.
Anyway, that was to give you an idea and I'm looking for help. Is there a place where I can download older drivers for the sound card because Creative only offers the latest. Also, If I am reverting back to an older one, do I need to uninstall the current one first? Thanks a lot.

Hi doohuh this is a common problem and a lot of gamers run older drivers to fix these types of issues you can roll back the driver.

Using the Roll Back Driver Feature

The Roll Back Driver feature enables you to replace a device driver by using a previously installed version. You can use this feature if you have installed a new device driver that causes your computer to be unstable. When you use the Roll Back Driver feature, you can restore (or roll back) the previous device driver, and continue to use the computer.

To use the Roll Back Feature: 1.Start Device Manager.2.Double-click the device for which you want to restore the driver.3.Click the Driver tab, and then click the Roll Back Driver button.

I'm afraid the "roll back driver" button is greyed out. I think this is directly related to how Creative handles their drivers which are not always recognized by Windows. Any other ideas?

this appears to be the previous version Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi (XtremeMusic / Platinum / Fatal1ty) Driver with OpenAL support v 2.09.0001 - TechSpot Drivers

I don't think that will work because I have Vista 32bit. I've tried another vista driver which apparently was released just a few days earlier? And I've also let windows find the driver but had the same results. Is there maybe a vista driver that was released mid-summer or sometime around then? I've looked at the techspot results, but they seem pretty limited. Thanks.

Okay, I'm still having a bunch of problems so I figured I'd start from scratch. I tried it last night, but obviously something still went wrong. Now I'm going to ask for your guy's help.
Alright, I uninstalled all creative programs, then I uninstalled the x-fi driver, and lastly I ran driver cleaner. After a reboot Windows recognizes the device but doesn't know what it is and cannot find a driver. Now - what do I do?
I have the most recent driver from creative already downloaded so I can run it from here- but that's what I tried last time with the same results.
Once again, everything is clear at the moment, so please guide me in the right direction - perhaps somehow letting windows install the driver instead of creative's self installation thing - I don't really know. Thanks.
