Post [Fixed] Another No Sound Thread

Hey guys

Ok last week my sound was working perfectly and randomly on Wednesday I restart my PC after installing Creative MediaSource 5 and behold! no sound whatsoever, except the startup sound... so it's definitely not a problem with my speaker... I went into my "Add hardware" menu to see if my driver was working and it said "this device is working properly" so my assumption is that that is ok too... I have no experience in putting together or taking apart a PC and I can't even open mine up because I think it's sealed permanently... Ive taken out every screw in the thing and had no joy... The only thing I can think is left to do is re-install windows, if there is anything else someone can think of before I do this please share.

P.S I have tried installing a Codec... there was no luck

Sorry about the reams of text, i know that it's really annoying on a forum
Thanks
Ash

Hi there and welcome to PCHF, could you try re installing your sound cards driver for me, as sometimes when you install other programs, they like to change certain settings.

Ok, I'll try that... how would i go about doing this? When i went into the "Add Hardware" icon on my PC all that came up was a list of the drivers... i couldn't do anything with them.

Oh and by the way, I uninstalled Creative MediaSource and no change

Ok first of all we need to identify what sound card you have. Could you first of all right click My Computer, click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager. Now expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers Category", and you should see something like AC97 Audio Device
