Default "Faulty" mouse

Recently, I've noticed that my mouse seems to be performing worse. I can't for example, highlight specific text on MS Word, in order to delete it. It also, when you want to highlight a letter for removal, highlights the whole word. Also, it's hard to precisely navigate around a paragraph on MS Word in order to insert a new letter or word. There are similar problems when using Outlook Express 6 email service. Sometimes, for example, when I press the Reply button on an email, it then sends the email!

I have another mouse, an older one kept in reserve. These faults don't seem to happen with the old mouse and didn't happen until recently with the new mouse. I've had the new mouse 3 years and it's only now beginning to act up.

What can I do? I would like to use the new mouse, since the old one is sluggish. But does the new mouse, for example, need cleaning, especially the connection to the Box? Or should I disconnect it from the Box, to allow it to "settle down," every night? I leave it connected all the time to the Box.

Take the ball out - look at the rollers inside - clean them.

Better still buy an optical mouse from £10.00 any PC shop

This is an optical mouse (the one that's acting up.) Says it's a Typhoon Stream Optical Mouse. The old one that's performing better as the ball inside.
