Default no sound after format

ive recently had to reformat and reinstall xp. but since then i hve had no sound. im using an onboard sound card (dont need anything special on this lol).

when i go to control panel -> sound and audio settings, everything is grayed not allowing me to click anything eg turn up volume or to go into advanced...


i didnt think i needed drivers for an on-board sound card??? anyone shed any light on this??

You need drivers for devices regardless of whether they're onboard or not, the operating system still needs to know how to interface it.

1 thing you could try is run windows update and see if theres anything in the hardware section, if not, give us your motherboard make/model or atleast the computer make/model

ve just installed the windows updates and it hasnt helped.


i cant see anything stamped on the motherboard so i run a system check, the model number is P4M266-PM12-TC.... i dont know the make of the board but the computer is an 'i-friend', but i dont know the model

Could you possibly install and run Belarc Advisor(Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit) and copy and paste the results of 'System Model' and 'Main Circuit Board' and hopefully i can find some info about it as I can't find anything based purely on the model number.

Make sure you post NOTHING else as the file contains license keys and IP/MAC addresses
