Default [Fixed]music playing slowly

i've been using cubase sx for years to make music but something's changed. my problem doesn't involve the software itself but the effect it has on my other music players.

after opening cubase i find that all my other players play music slower than normal. actually i'm presuming they all do that, my main player is winamp but the slowing down also occurs with the player in myspace. when i close cubase the problem is still there.

i can get things back to normal by rebooting but is there a way i can get the playing speed back to normal without doing that? ideally i'd like to know how to stop the problem altogether.

any help would be most appreciated.

mick.

Hi mickyboy!
Welcome to PC Helpforum!

Are you sure all processes are closed after shutting down Cubase?
Also what kind of soundcard do you have, and are it's drivers updated?

Bluefish

thanks bluefish, i'll check that next time it happens (it doesn't happen everytime). sometimes it happens when i open cubase, when i have music playing. sometimes not.

i use a 2496 audiophile, i've now downloaded the latest drivers but the installation wizard only allows me to 'remove' not 'modify' for some reason. i've asked m-audio for help with this.

Nice another M-Audio fan.

I myself actually use the Delta 1010LT and I've been thouroughly happy with it's performance. I'm pretty certain that the sound card is not the issue unless it's physically defective, but we won't jump to that conclusion yet.

I'm inclined to wonder what type of maintenance regimen you have iwith your machine. Do you run regular defrags and whatnot.

Also, and it's been a while since I've installed sound drivers, but I seem to recall having to remove drivers before installing new ones, you might want to try that. Check your device manager for resource conflicts and If your machine has onboard sound, disable that.

I'm not sure what the audiophiles control panel looks like, but I'm hoping there is a section where you can adjust sample rate for recording and playback. I'm not sure what you mean by "slow" if you mean that it's like playing a 45 RPM record on 33 RPM setting low then you may want to adjust your playback sample rate to 44100 Khz. If you mean choppy or stuttering, there are quite the variety of issues possible from faulty ram to a hard drive not being able to keep up with read/write requests to driver issues.

If none of the above suggestions work, consider running through the instructions in the ///Prework\\\ Link in my signature and post the resulting logs (*** attached text files please) and we can do a rather thorough malware check. A chkdisk and a defrag may not go amiss either.

I must say that I appreciate your taste in sound hardware.

Last but not least, a warm welcome to the forums.

you're right, the old one needed to be removed first but the install wizard makes no mention of this. i've pointed this out to m-audio support, they were very helpful.

with the new driver installed the problem seems to have been rectified, i can't be sure since it didn't happen everytime but so far so good.

thanks very much for your help double_a_ron & bluefish. i'm glad i found this forum. nice.

if any of you are on myspace it would be good to hear from you. www.myspace.com/mickleemusic
