Angry [Resolved] yet another formatted pc

hi guys, was given an emachines pc by a friend whose husband pulled it to bits, have reassembled and reinstalled windows, all ok apart from the onboard sound and video drivers. in device manager, multi media controller, video controller and raid controller all have the dreaded yellow question mark. have scoured google, downloaded a few ac97 audio drivers (not for my mother board)(didnt know at the time), suffered shut downs and safe mode.(due to wrong drivers). anyways, the case says emachines e170, the mother board says winfast. possible serials are: d33321 760gxk8mc rev 1.0, (white barcode sticker) wywp53303050 pc 760m02-gx-8ls.have also done the belarc scan as follows.....

Hi elle,

Welcome to PCHF.

I don't believe this is an actual e-Machines e170, as this machine would be anchient, and were released with Windows 95/98. If it is indeed a e170, it much have been upgraded at some point?

It's looks like the audio driver you need is an ADI one. I believe this one is the one you need: SoundMax Digital Audio Driver 5.12.01.3620 for ADI SoundMax AC97 Integrated audio chips

lol,

Can you make sure no other AC'97 exists in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

And also, in Conrol Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager, "Sound, video and game controllers" category. right click and uninstall any AC'97 devices/drivers here.

Immediately after, start the ADI install and then reboot.

Default *** fluff!

sound video and game controllers dont have the yellow question mark, they also dont have the option to uninstall. just update (tried using the latest ac97 for update but it wont show up in the browse), scan for changes an properties. the multimedia audio controller and raid controller have the yellows though. and now when i turn on something asks for drivers (i missed what it was, just whizzed through to get online)
