Question [Answered] Distorted Sound

Recently built my PC, now all working fine, except,

I have just re installed my sons StarWars Battlefront and now the sound is distorted (warble). It gets more warbley the more things are on the screen. Playing a MP3 through roxio was ok, turned on the roxio graphics and the sound distorts. The SW game is distorted the whole time. I know this is something simple but can't figure out what it is!

Hello kohli,

The problems your describing, is most likely due to the processing capabilities of your PC (CPU and/or sound card). Do you have any more details about your PC, such as what model Creative sound card you have?

Hi, my PC is

AsRock 775dual motherboard
Intel P4DC processor
Nvidia 6200 AGP video
Creative Lab PCI 128 (WDM) sound card.

Basically, playing music in Roxio works ok until I turn on the visualizations, then it becomes 'bubbly' sounding. Same thing happens on PC games, especially starwars battlefront, again lots of graphics happening on the screen.

Tried to find latest audio drivers, none available. Probably need to change my sound card.

thanks,

Adrian

Hi Adrian, yep, I would say new sound card is in order. The Creative Labs 128 is pritty old technology now, it has been around for a while, and relies heavily on your CPU, which is fine when it has nothing else to do. No good for gaming, never really was IMHO, and pritty much any sound card you can buy these days will beat this one, even the AC'97's. I particularly like Voyetra/Turtle Beach sound cards, but they don't seem to be doing so well these days. If you do want to stick with creative, and you have.. just a couple of pounds extra to spare, I would recommend this one: Creative CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER 7.0 PCI X-FI XTREME GAMER SOUND CARD review cheap prices CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER 7.0 PCI X-FI XTREME GAMER SOUND CARD Creative best buy discount online uk shop

EDIT: Marked as answered.
