Default [Fixed] soundcard not working, Is new ram the reason?

Recently I upgraded the ram in my computer. I am running a Dell Dimension 8100 series which only allows RD ram. I purchased two 128mb sticks of ram off new egg to upgrade my system. After I installed the ram, my sound card [the original turtle beach Santa Cruz card that came with the computer] began giving out shrill "banshee like" noises. Everything that would normally produce a sound of any kind (like clicking a windows icon) gives off this horrid noise. I thought that it was a compatibility issue with my ram, so I removed it and put everything back as it originally was. The sound still won't work. My friend tested the ram in his computer and everything worked fine. I checked the volume control and ran through the troubleshooter on the computer. I have tried reinstalling the sound drivers. I took the sound card out, checked the connections, cleaned out the computer and even reformatted the hard drive all with no success. When I run the sound test that came with the Santa Cruz system it tells me that my hardware it properly installed and working, but I know it isn't. My speakers have been tested and work so I know that it is a sound card issue. Is it possible that the ram fried my sound card??? Everything else worked fine when I installed it! Any suggestions will be very appreciated!

Yes the noise comes out of the speakers. I tried hooking up a headset to see if the speakers were the problem, but I hear the same sound through them. If I unhook the speakers I don't hear anything at all coming from the computer.

Hvae you checked your "advanced" settings in Control Panel AND what ever sound card software -- looking for settings like "MIDI" and/or "Line in" Or "microphone" and see what they're set at. If they're cranked up-- try turning them down and see if that fixes the problem. turtle beach --while not a card i'm real famiiliar with does have some driver/hardware conflict issues. It'd be worth a shot.

Everythng I can find on Turtle Beach's website points to a driver problem --uninstall/reinstall. Trouble this is an OLD series of card the very newest drivers for any are 2004-- we have to know exactly which model of Santa Cruz you own.....

Thanks for the help! I pulled out the sound card to find out the type. The only information I have been able to find it that it is a turtle beach Santa Cruz DSP sound card. Manufactured for Dell between 1999 and 2000. According to the site they identify it through the number on its largest chip which read Crystal CS4630. I am currently trying to find a driver for it for XP in case the one I have on disk is out of date (this is hard because Turtle beach discontinued the Santa Cruz line a while ago apperently...) I rechecked everything in the device manager and all of the sound levels seen to be normal.
