i wonder if anyone can help , i have a laptop which up to a week ago was fine , then the electric blew in the house and it all went pair shaped , the computer had nothing left , so i ran the installation disk and managed to get windows xp home edition back on the problem being i have no sound , well i do have system sounds but nothing else when i look under the audio device tab it says no audio device , i have a realtec sound card and have tried downloading a driver but nothin seems to work , i can not play cds please help .....very frustrated

Ok, first things first. We are going to need to know what we're dealing with hardware-wise so..can you run THIS and post all of the details about your soundcard.

It would also help us if you could post the make/model number and serial number of the laptop.
