Default [Fixed] No Volume Icon in Taskbar/Buttons not Working

The volume icon used to display in my taskbar, but it's not there anymore. I checked out the sound and volume properties, and the option to have it displayed is checked so it should be there. It'd not hiding in the inactive icons either. Also, the buttons on my laptop that would control the volume (mute, volume up, volume down) don't work at all anymore The sound still works and I'm able to control it if I manually open the volume toolbar or in other programs like WMP. Anyone know how I can fix this?

 Hey Rachel,

Is this something that just started out of nowhere? Did you install any software or hardware recently?

Can you please follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature and post the resulting two logs, that will help us to rule out malware as an issue.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Well, I was having issues with some mal-aware a few days ago. Now that I think about it, this may have happened around the same time. I made a post in the HJT forum with my broken and fixed HJT logs. Should I make another log?

Actually, if you would just post a link to that thread it would be very helpful.

I dont think anything there would cause this prob.

But for the tray icon , in youre sound and volume properties , remove the tick and press apply and then place the tick back and press apply again. Might work.

And for the keyboard , try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for it.

 Joe's right, but it is possible that your registry may have gotten a little garbled with all of the fixing. Perhaps a registry fix? Or Joe, do you think that sfc /scannow might help her?
