 OK then Rachel,

Please download RegSupremePro from my signature, save it to your desktop.
Once you have tried Joe's suggestions of reinstalling, if you still have the problem; make sure that you have your XP cd in the drive. Click on Start, Run, and type in sfc /scannow. It is important that you type it exactly as shown, including spaces. This utility will look for damaged or missing system files.

After that has finished, install and run RegSupremePro. It will want to make a backup of your cache, let it. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds.

Turn your computer OFF, not a reboot, let it sit for a good 30 seconds, reboot.

We look forward to hearing about how that works for you.

I tried the volume icon suggestion and re-installing the driver, but the problem still exists. I would like to try RegSupremePro, but I don't have my XP cd with me. Is there anything else I could try or should I just wait until I can get to it?

The "sfc /scannow" and RegSupremePro are two different options. You can still use RegSupremePro , and you can also try to run the "sfc /scannow" anyway , and when it ask for a file , direct it to C:\WINDOWS\i386 folder instead of the windows cd.

Okay, I ran the sfn /scannow and it didn't find anything. I just ran RegSupremePro, and it didn't ask me to make a backup and I don't see one in the backip folder.

I just realized this last night, I'm not getting any Windows sounds (start up, errors, warning tones) either.

Hey Rachel,

Did you run the Registry Cleaner anyway? The backup of your cache is a normal part of starting RegSupremePro. Nothing popped up when you started the program?

sfc /scannow won't exactly "find anything" it automatically repairs and replaces files that are deemed to be damaged.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Ok, I guess by "find anything" I meant that it didn't ask to locate a file I didn't run the registry fixer anyway, should I go ahead and do this? When I started the program, it didn't ask for me to do anything. Nothing at all popped up.
