Tries this - got as far as rebooting to safe mode, but then failed. No matter how many times I pressed F8 it insisted on rebooting as normal. How do I reboot to safe mode?

Not sure what's involved here or if it's within my competence (almost certainly not!), but will try it if all else fails!

I you go to start/run/msconfig/boot.ini tab and put a check infront of "safeboot" , pres apply and ok , and reboot youre pc then it should start in safemode.

But first please uninstall "Logitech\Desktop Messenger" in add and remove programs , then run Ewido in safemode , and after that post the ewido log and a new hjt log made after these instructions please.

OK, thanks guys. I've removed Logitech and run Ewido in safe mode. Lots of infections (mainly cookies) - this is the report (again I'll have to do this in 2 chunks as it exceeds the character limit):

Mod edit: You can attach the logs as txt files:
Attached Files
File Type: txt Ewido log.txt (20.6 KB, 1 views)

Looks clean except this one , but that is not even a real problem:

O4 - Global Startup: KODAK Software Updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\KODAK\KODAK Software Updater\7288971\Program\backWeb-7288971.exe

Youre problems must come from something else im afraid.

Ok, thanks very much for your help. Someone else has suggested 'overlay problems', so I guess I'll try and check that out.
