Question Upgrade of Onboard Sound - What Still Works

Hello,
I have an eMachines T2895 computer. The computer has microphone and earphone jacks that be accessed from a front panel. I am going to upgrade the onboard sound by replacing it with a Creatve Lab Soundblaster Audigy 2 card.

My question is this: After I upgrade, will I still be able to use the front jacks or will I have to rely on the ones on the new sound card? Thanks

Hi Atcopeland,

Welcome back to PCHF. I apologize but hardware is not my area of expertise, however, we have a terrific group of techs here and I am positive that one of us will be able to answer your question.

Unfortunately, none of our regular hardware gurus are on-line at the moment, I am sure that they will be on before too long and you should have some information by tomorrow if not later this evening. Hang in there.

Hi there atcopeland

In order for you to keep using the sockets on the front of the PC you will need to plug the cables from them into the new soundcard. Usually nowadays soundcards have "internal" headers that are just for this purpose. Can you describe or post a pic of the ends of the cables that come out of your sound sockets on the front panel.

Sure......The new sound card hasn't arrived yet. When I unassemble the case I will get back to you. The new card is a Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2, if that helps. Thanks

SHOULD be a piece-of-cake... just eyeball the current setup when you open your case... make sure to ground yourself before touching internal parts-- unless eMachines uses some weird proprietary connectors (unlikely). I own one... I bought refurbished for my kids-- it is a nice little 'puter. Very neatly assembled inside/wires nicely bundled & routed in the case. I have not had a single issue with it in 4 years.
