Sorry noone has gotten back to you yet erline,

Have you checked all of the "obvious" stuff?

Speakers switched on?
Socket plugged in?
Mute is not enabled?
Volume is turned up?

Did anything happen before you lost sound?

yes sir, checked the "obvious" already. Cannot do anything with the "sound and audio Properties because as it says "no audio device" hence the "Device Volume and "Speaker volume" are not highlighted and cannot do any changes. where can i get audio device if there is none? thanks a lot.
none happened before sound went out. thanks.

Sounds like a simple re-installation of the drivers (software) that came with the soundcard would do the trick.
