Default [Fixed] Audio Problem

I looked around a little bit to make sure no one else had posted a similar problem, but didn't find anything.

So basically, my brother got a new PC about a month ago and everything was good up until a month ago. Everytime he plays any audio it sounds very high pitched and just very weird in general. It sounds kind of like the pitch of everything went higher, and the bass is lacking. We tried diffent speakers and headphones, but nothing changes.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Welcome to PC Help Forum.com.

Please can you tell me what software program you are using to listen to the audio...or is it ALL audio on the PC?

Thanks for the welcome.

It's all audio. He's used WMP, iTunes, and a whole mess of other programs.

Ok, so we're talking about a general problem then. Do you know the make and model number of your soundard? You can use these utilities to identify it if you don't know: http://www.pchelpforum.com/your-pc-detailed-info/

I am wondering if your soundcard uses some sort of software that processes the sound..maybe thru a graphic equalizer? Is there a sound icon on your task bar next to the clock ? If there is double-click on it and check the settings and options..it may be that there is a graphics equalizer and the "high-end" sounds are all turned up.

I looked in the Master Volume settings, but found no graphics equalizer thing. I ran one of those programs you said, and it said Realtek AC'97 Audio. Would that be my soundcard?

Go HERE and grab the latest drivers for your soundcard - let's see if that sorts the problem. If you need help installing then just shout.
